How to Pray for the First Time
To pray for the first time, find a quiet moment, talk to God honestly in your own words, thank Him for one thing, ask Him for what you need, and close in the name of Jesus. There are no magic words. Prayer is simply talking with God, who already knows you and wants to hear from you.

How do I pray? 5 simple steps
1. Get quiet
Find a quiet spot and take a slow breath. Tell God, "I am here."
2. Be honest
Be honest. Tell Him what you are feeling, even if it is doubt or fear.
3. Give thanks
Thank Him for one thing, however small.
4. Ask
Ask Him for what you need, and for what someone you love needs.
5. Close in Jesus' name
Close in the name of Jesus, the One who opens the way to the Father.
A prayer to begin a relationship with Jesus
If you have never asked Jesus to be your Savior, you can do that right now. There is nothing magic about these words. What matters is your heart. If you mean it, pray this:
Father, I come to You as I am. I know I have sinned and I cannot fix that on my own. I believe Jesus is Your Son, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that You raised Him from the dead. Jesus, I ask You to forgive me and to be the Lord of my life. I receive Your gift of grace. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me follow You every day. Thank You for loving me and bringing me home. In Jesus' name, amen.

Questions about prayer
Do I have to use special words to pray?
No. God cares about your heart, not polished language. You can pray in plain words, in a whisper, or silently in your head. Jesus even warned against piling up empty words.
What if I do not feel anything when I pray?
That is normal, especially at first. Prayer is not measured by feelings. God hears you whether or not you feel Him close. Keep showing up, and let trust grow over time.
How long should a prayer be?
As long or as short as you need. A one-sentence prayer is real prayer. Many people start with a few minutes a day and grow from there.
Why do Christians pray in Jesus' name?
Jesus taught His followers to ask the Father in His name. Praying in Jesus' name means coming to God through what Jesus has done for you, not through your own goodness.
