Bible Verses About Forgiveness

Receive the forgiveness God offers, and pass it on.

Below are 7 verses for forgiveness. Read each one slowly, then use the short note under it to turn the verse into a prayer. You do not need special words. Just be honest with God.

  1. 1 John 1:9

    “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

    How to pray it: Name the sin honestly, then thank Him that He is faithful to forgive.

  2. Psalm 51:10

    “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

    How to pray it: Pray this line slowly and mean every word.

  3. Psalm 103:12

    “As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”

    How to pray it: When old guilt returns, thank God that He has already removed it.

  4. Romans 8:1

    “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

    How to pray it: Tell God the voice of condemnation you keep hearing, and choose His word over it.

  5. Ephesians 4:32

    “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

    How to pray it: Name the person you need to forgive, and ask God for a tender heart toward them.

  6. Colossians 3:13

    “Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”

    How to pray it: Remember how much you have been forgiven, then release the debt someone owes you.

  7. Isaiah 1:18

    “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”

    How to pray it: Come to God just as you are, and thank Him that no stain is too deep for Him.
