Bible Verses for Guidance and Direction

You do not need the whole map. You need the next step.

Below are 7 verses for guidance and direction. Read each one slowly, then use the short note under it to turn the verse into a prayer. You do not need special words. Just be honest with God.

  1. Proverbs 3:5-6

    “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

    How to pray it: Tell God the decision in front of you, and admit where your own understanding runs out.

  2. Psalm 32:8

    “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”

    How to pray it: Ask Him to teach you, then sit quietly for a minute and listen.

  3. James 1:5

    “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

    How to pray it: Ask for wisdom plainly and specifically. He gives it without scolding.

  4. Psalm 119:105

    “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

    How to pray it: Ask God to light the next step, not the whole road.

  5. Isaiah 30:21

    “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”

    How to pray it: Ask God to make His voice clear, and to give you the courage to follow it.

  6. Jeremiah 29:11

    “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

    How to pray it: Thank God that He sees your future, and ask Him to lead you into it.

  7. Proverbs 16:9

    “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.”

    How to pray it: Hold your plans with an open hand and ask God to establish your steps.
